Featuring three evenings of films followed by panels or Q&As,Women’s Film Forum, Vol. 2 brings together a collection of powerful female-directed films. A New Color: The Art of Being Edythe Boone will be showing on the first evening. Directed by Marlene Morris, the film covers the restoration of the iconic Women’s Building and Boone’s life teaching art in Oakland and Richmond. Thursday’s film, BaddDDD Sonia Sanchez, directed by Barbara Attie, Janet Goldwater and Sabrina Schmidt Gordon is a portrait of poet, playwright, teacher and social activist Sonia Sanchez An architect of the 1960s Black Arts Movement. She is described as someone with a “mighty, loud, sassy, and strong Black female voice.” The final Friday film is Treasure – From Tragedy to Trans Justice: Mapping a Detroit Story by director Dream Hampton telling the story of Shelley “Treasure” Hilliard, a 19-year-old transgender woman of color from Detroit whose death was not tried as a hate crime. — Lakshmi Sarah
